The Garden Club of Charleston, Inc. 2027-2028 Scholarship Application
Deadline to Apply is February 1, 2027.
Applicants must meet ALL of the following criteria for consideration for this scholarship:

Must be a US citizen. Preference is given, but not limited to, residents of Berkeley, Charleston, and Dorchester Counties. International, foreign exchange, and doctoral program students are not eligible.

Must be enrolled as a full-time student at an accredited institution in South Carolina, classified as a sophomore or have nine graded hours as a graduate student.

Must have a cumulative GPA of at least 3.5 on a 4.0 scale.

Must be currently pursuing a degree in either Agriculture, Agronomy, Botany, Biological Sciences, Urban Planning, Environmental and Sustainability Studies, Environmental Engineering, Floriculture, Horticulture, Land Management, Landscape Architecture, Plant Pathology, or other related fields.
SELECTION CRITERIA
All applications received by The Garden Club of Charleston, Inc. (TGCC) Scholarship Director will be judged by a committee of six in order to choose the winning applications. This committee will be made up of TGCC officers and Scholarship Committee members.
Applications are evaluated and selected on the basis of the applicants:
- Academic Record
- Essay
- References
- Honors/ Extracurricular Activities
- Work Experience
- Commitment to Field of Study

The Garden Club of Charleston, Inc. will notify all applicants in writing of the committee’s decision on or before March 15, 2027. Applicants who continue to maintain a 3.5 or higher average are encouraged to apply next year.
DESCRIPTION OF FUNDS
Scholarships will be determined annually by the Scholarship Committee and are subject to the availability of funds. The award amount for each TGCC Scholarship in the 2027-2028 school year is $2,500.
Checks for the chosen applicants will be mailed to the Financial Aid Office of the institution where the student is enrolled in mid-July. No funds will be sent directly to the student.
All funds will be distributed by the Financial Aid Office of the particular school and according to that school’s term system, unless the student has only one term remaining before completion of the program. In the event a student withdraws or transfers from their original school, the balance of the funds must be returned to TGCC.
APPLICATION DEADLINE DATE- February 1, 2027. All applications must be received online by that date.
Each award will consist of a $2,500.00 scholarship for the 2027-2028 academic year.

Before applying for The Garden Club of Charleston, Inc. Scholarship, you will need to prepare the following:

A personal essay describing career and educational goals, educational background and the reason you chose your stated field of study. You may include any financial concerns and personal interests. The essay should be between 500-700 words.

A list of extracurricular activities, honors, and recognitions received within the last two years.
- An upload to this form of your official transcript.
- An upload to this form of two (2) single page letters of recommendation from a) a school official within your academic department and b) a character reference.
